Tie Dye Cupcakes!

These cupcakes are fun for everyday but you can also use them as St. Patty's Day and Easter desserts. By adding a chocolate gold coin to the top it will become your rainbow cupcake leading to the pot of gold. For Easter just add a few jelly beans on top making your cupcake into an Easter basket.

What you'll need:
White cake mix or own recipe for cupcakes
If using Betty Crocker box mix: 3 egg whites, 1/3 cup oil, 1 1/4 cup water
Electric mixer
Large mixing bowl
Several small mixing bowls
Food coloring
Cupcake pan
Cupcake liners
Plenty of spoons
Icing (store bought or homemade)

Tie Dye Cupcakes are super easy to make. I chose to try this design out on a white cake box mix but you can use your own homemade recipe just as well (make sure its white cake so the colors come out).

First preheat oven to 350 ( follow package or recipe). Second prepare cake mix (again according to package or recipe). Then separate mix into bowls based on how many colors your using. I chose to use four colors: red, blue, green and yellow.

Add just a few drops of food coloring in each bowl. Stir and add additional color if so desired.

After mixing colors pour into cupcake pan one color at a time.

Now the box tells me to bake for 18-20 minutes...if your oven is anything like mine you know not to follow the directions on the box. I put mine in for 13 minutes checking at 10 minutes just to make sure my crazy oven didn't burn them. Always do the toothpick test just to be sure their cooked in the middle.

Look how neat! Don't be impatient like me and burn yourself trying to get the cupcakes out, wait till their cool and transfer to a plate before making your next batch. I can usually get 16 cupcakes with this mix.

I just had to take a peek to see if it worked! Wait about 30 minutes for cupcakes to cool before icing. Just like the cake mix you'll need four bowls for the icing. I used the same colors: red, blue, green and yellow.

Now I only used a three color combo while piping. I was afraid the colors would run together too much. I chose the star tip but I'm sure the others would work just as well. I started by piping the outside and then changed colors to pipe the inside.

Last but not least ENJOY!

I hope you'll have as much fun making these tie dye cupcakes as I did.

Whats for dinner tonight? Tacos in pasta shells..check back for recipe:)
